Best First-Person RPG Games for PC (2023 Update)

February 22, 2023

The first-person RPG is an amazing type of games where you can have a lot of breathtaking and thrilling experiences.

And while there are plenty of third-person RPG games, we have only a small amount of first-person RPG games to choose from that really worth playing.

Therefore, I have decided to create my own top of the best first-person RPGs.

In this article, you will find only the best first-person RPG games for PC which I ranked from best to worst based on my own opinion.

So you may disagree with it and prefer one game over the other, but know that it just feels right to me that way.

BioShock Infinite

BioShock Infinite

The first best first-person RPG game is BioShock Infinite which is a shooter where you play as a Booker, a protagonist of the game, completing different objectives in a sky-city of Columbia.

BioShock Infinite has the most thrilling plot I have ever seen in any game and if I were asked to name the game with the most compelling story, it would be this one.

During the gameplay, completing missions, you need to develop your character upgrading his abilities and strengths; this is basically what this list is all about. But remember to not waste them in a wrong way; you should plan out your development plan in advance.

On top of that, as in almost any first-person shooting game, you can pick up weapons and other equipment from the defeated enemies or just find them nearby.

Altogether, this is an awesome first-person RPG game, so make sure to check it out if you haven’t yet.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the first masterpiece from Bethesda on this list of best first-person RPGs.

This is a first-person RPG with an open world which is set during the early ages of human history in a fantasy world of Skyrim which is inhabited by dragons and other monsters.

You are the chosen and the only one who can slay the most dangerous dragon, Alduin the World-Eater.

The game starts from character creation and after this, you begin the journey. On your road, you need to complete exciting quests that either advance you to the main objective or tell even more about this fictional world.

Completing the quests and killing the monsters, you gain experience that you can use to improve your character skills and different goods that make you stronger.

In conclusion, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the best first-person RPG game with the open world, and I strongly recommend playing it if you consider a game for the long run.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4

As well as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 4 is a first-person RPG game with an open world developed by Bethesda and while the first one features early ages of our civilization, the latter is all about the deep future.

Basically, they are kind of similar: you still complete quests and slay monsters, gain experience and different goods; but this time, it happens in a post-apocalyptic world, so instead of dragons, you will be fighting with mutants and instead of a sword, you will be using a laser rifle.

ARK: Survival Evolved

ARK: Survival Evolved

Ark: Survival Evolved is another first-person RPG game with an open world environment full of dinosaurs and other enemies, mostly animals but in some cases real players as well.

Yes, I have barely forgotten to say that the game has a multiplayer mode.

The main objective is to survive by any means.

There are no rules, you can build bases, domesticate animals and ride on them, gather resources, and make guns.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is one of the most recent games on this best first-person RPGs list.

This is a single player open world game based on a true story of a war in Bohemia in 1403.

A protagonist, Henry, enrolls to the Lord Radzig Kobyla service in pursuit of revenge for the killing of his father.

Knowing nothing, he needs to learn the art of war from scratch. And these not skill points or equipment that decide the result of a battle, it is a player’s personal gaming skill.

One of the most interesting features I find in this first-person RPG is its realism.

Thanks to the historians and architects, the game reconstructs the exact events that were happening in 1403 with accurate buildings, weapons, clothing, combat techniques, and more.

On top of that, it also includes a needs system which a player has to follow in order to stay healthy; for example, eat or sleep in time.

PAYDAY 2

PAYDAY 2

The sixth first-person RPG is Payday 2.

In this FPS RPG, you need to perform a series of heists in a solo or cooperative mode with up to three friends to get the money that will provide your retirement.

After a successful heist, you get some experience in order to improve certain skills and money to purchase better equipment or weapons.

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 is also a first-person shooter RPG game that can be played with up to three friends in amazing cooperative campaigns.

The gameplay of the game is simple: a player chooses one of four characters, completes missions, loots different items (weapons, shields, skins, etc.), and develops skills of his character.

Dying Light

Dying Light

First-person RPG, open world, horror, survival, and action-adventure – these are all the genres our next game consists of.

Accordingly to the plot, you play as Kyle Crane, an undercover agent, who is sent to the infected zone of Harran in order to get a file that may affect the reputation of his agency.

But after you arrive, it is up to you deciding what to do: either to stay focused on your mission or to help other people to survive.

In any option you choose, on the way, you will have to search for useful resources to craft weapons (Dying Light has an incredible variety of ammunition), complete different quests, and slay hordes of zombies.

The last amazing thing I can say about this best first-person RPG game is a cooperative mode where you can complete missions together with up to three friends.

Mount & Blade: Warband

Mount & Blade: Warband

Mount & Blade is set during the medieval ages and basically, this is a sandbox first-person RPG without any storyline that you must follow. It is like a simulator of a medieval warrior.

In the beginning, you will be offered to customize the appearance and the origin of your warrior that will define his initial attributes.

After this, you are free to do anything: complete different quests, gather your army, fight in tournaments, siege castles, and a lot of other stuff that was possible in the medieval ages.

The fundamental element of Mount & Blade is a combat mode. It is pretty much diversified and so close to the reality so that you can do pretty much anything you can imagine was practical during the medieval era.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

The last first-person RPG game I want to include here is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Although it was released a way long ago, I believe the game deserves to be on the list.

This is a shooter with elements of survival horror which takes us to the Chernobyl after the second nuclear disaster in a close future and you play as a Marked One in order to find and kill a mysterious man within the area called Strelok.

The game has a rich story which actually has 7 possible endings and a fantastic atmosphere which immerses us into the Chernobyl.

Its gameplay consists of scavenging a radioactive world for useful resources, killing mutated monsters and hostile people, and completing different missions.

In general, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a cool game that had been in development for almost 6 years and has a great story that will absorb you into the game for several months; moreover, there are two more games in the series which will take years to accomplish.

The only thing I dislike is its outdated graphics, but it easily can be fixed with installing a patch. So, make sure to check it out.

To sum up, you just went through my best first-person RPG games list and I believe that you have managed to find something for yourself.

Although I did my best ranking first-person RPGs properly, you still may find the game you prefer lower from others; therefore, don’t expect a game on the first place to be the one you must start with, just find the game that you feel more congruent with and go with it.

If I have missed something and you want to include another game to the list, please let me know in the comments section below. I will review it as fast as I can and add it here if it truly deserves to.
